You may ask - "What is N.E.A.T?"
Google defines it as Non-exercise activity thermogenesis, or N.E.A.T, which is a fancy name that refers to the energy you burn from incidental movement.Â
Examples being; climbing a flight of stairs, standing while you work, or walking a few blocks for a business meeting is not necessarily considered structured exercise.
Basically, everything we do that is not sleeping, eating, or sports-like exercise.
How can this help you?
As you may have read in our previous emails/blogs when we asked you to look at your daily habits, understanding your N.E.A.T will help you to recognise and improve your habits, which include a pattern to burn calories and lose fat.
How to increase your N.E.A.T:
Clean…EVERYTHING!
- Make cleaning fun, pop some music on, and dance whilst vacuuming
- Squat while polishing
Working at a desk – may that be at home or in the officeÂ
- Set a few reminders on your phone - such as get up, walk on the spot, stretch
Daily Routine Changes
- Wake up earlier to make sure you get in a short walk
- Waiting for the kettle? Do some jumping jacks!
Cooking
- Squat whilst as you grab items around the kitchen
- Walk on the spot while you cook
Watching TVÂ
- Get up and stretch
- Walk on the spot
- Walk to the TV instead of the remoteÂ
The most important thing is to keep in mind why you are doing anything.
Consider your own objective. I want you to keep in mind the primary motivation for your weight loss efforts.
You will achieve your objective and have fun along the way if you keep your attention on it and keep in mind to have fun while using all these simple actions and hacks to burn even more calories.
