Your Treatment Options
The range of weight loss treatment options is growing and which you choose will depend on your preference for taking the medication, your goal and budget. Eligibility is generally the same for all medications so you should consider…
1. How to take the medication
Do you prefer to take the medication once a week by injection. Or as an oral tablet every day?
2. What’s your goal and budget?
A dual GLP-1/GIP agonist is likely to give you the best weight loss result but plans are more expensive. Depending on the weight you want to lose and how long you are likely to be on the plan, you can work out the most cost effective treatment

How the medication works
Regulates hunger
Directly impacts the brain’s reward centre, turning down the ‘food noise’ and helping you reduce portion size without hunger.
Delays gastric emptying
Slows the rate at which the stomach empties, keeping you feeling satisfied for longer and reducing the desire to snack between meals.
Healthy Body Composition
Weight loss should come from losing fat, not muscle. Achieve results in a healthy way by learning how to eat the right foods and train effectively to preserve muscle mass.

GLP-1 medication works by mimicking your body’s natural hormones to suppress your appetite and regulate your hunger. You’ll feel satisfied eating smaller meals and lose weight by reducing your calorie intake. If using a pre-filled pen, you’ll take a weekly injection at home into your stomach, arm or thigh, It’s quick, easy and painless. If using tablets, you’ll take daily on an empty stomach and wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking
Some people experience side effects with GLP-1, although not everyone will experience them. The most common side effects patients might experience are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and vomiting. These usually go away after a few days or weeks on continued treatment.
Results really vary from person to person. Some patients start to see results immediately whereas others may not see results until the dose increases after 1 month. Regardless of how quickly weight loss results start, when you use GLP-1 medications combined with Weight Loss Clinic expert guidance, you can expect to see good results in 2-3 months
The Ozempic brand became globally known as the first injectable weight loss medication but actually it is not licensed for weight loss. Ozempic is primarily used for managing type 2 diabetes and has been on the market since 2017. Studies found however that it can also aid in weight loss and it was used ‘off-licence’ for this purpose until Wegovy was launched in 2023.
Ozempic and Wegovy are manufactured by the same company Novo Nordisk and contain the active ingredient semaglutide. Wegovy was however developed and licensed specifically for weight loss and is available in higher doses than Ozempic so is more effective in terms of weight loss expectations.
We are aware of potential interactions between weight loss medications and other drugs, which is why our assessment will prompt you to confirm all medications you are currently taking. Our team will also review your allergies and family history to ensure your safety and eligibility for the medication.
We recommend dedicating yourself to a weight loss plan for 8-12 months to maintain continuous progress. Many patients continue on the medication for many years, using it as a tool for weight maintenance and a protection against weight regain, even when the goal weight is achieved.
It’s important to understand that weight loss medication is not a permanent solution but rather a supportive tool in your weight loss journey. Long-term success depends on making sustainable lifestyle changes
GLP-1 medications are typically safe for the majority of individuals. In a recent trial involving 1,171 participants taking GLP-1 medications, 9.8% experienced serious adverse events. Serious adverse events are those that significantly impact an individual’s quality of life and often result in discontinuation of the medication. However, it’s important to note that the majority of patients experience mild or no side effects from the medication.
