The difference between Mounjaro and Wegovy (GLP1/GIP vs GLP1)

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both weight loss medications administered by weekly injection. While both are effective, they vary in their compositions and mechanisms.

Wegovy contains Semaglutide, emulating the GLP-1 hormone to extend sensations of fullness.

Mounjaro contains Tirzepatide, replicating the functions of two GLP-1 and GIP hormones to diminish feelings of hunger and help with cravings.

Frequently asked questions

If you’re 18-75 with a BMI over 30 (27 with a weight-related issue) you should be eligible.
As with any prescription medication, there are contraindications to use and our medical team will review your medical history (and blood test results if you choose to have them) to check you are safe to have the treatment. Not eligible during pregnancy / breastfeeding.

GLP-1 medication works by mimicking your body’s natural hormones to suppress your appetite and regulate your hunger.
You’ll feel satisfied eating smaller meals and lose weight by reducing your calorie intake. If using a pre-filled pen, you’ll take an injection at home into your stomach, arm or thigh, It’s quick, easy and painless.

Some people experience side effects with GLP-1, although not everyone will experience them. The most common side effects patients might experience are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and vomiting. These usually go away after a few days or weeks on continued treatment.

GLP-1 medications when combined with Weight Loss clinic expert guidance can showcase results in 2-3 months

Ozempic and Wegovy both contain the active ingredient semaglutide, Ozempic is primarily used for managing type 2 diabetes and has been on the market since 2017, studies found it can also aid in weight loss. On the other hand, Wegovy is a newer medication specifically licensed for weight loss. Although both medications elicit the same physiological response, differences lie in factors such as semaglutide dosage and the medical conditions they are marketed for.

We are aware of potential interactions between weight loss medications and other drugs, which is why our assessment will prompt you to confirm all medications you are currently taking. Our team will also review your allergies and family history to ensure your safety and eligibility for the medication.

We recommend dedicating yourself to a weight loss plan for 8-12 months to maintain continuous progress. It’s important to understand that weight loss medication is not a permanent solution but rather a supportive tool in your weight loss journey. Long-term success depends on making sustainable lifestyle changes

GLP-1 medications are typically safe for the majority of individuals. In a recent trial involving 1,171 participants taking GLP-1 medications, 9.8% experienced serious adverse events. Serious adverse events are those that significantly impact an individual’s quality of life and often result in discontinuation of the medication. However, it’s important to note that the majority of patients experience mild or no side effects from the medication.
