Christmas Weight Gain: Why You Shouldn’t Stress About It

Dieting during Christmas can bring just as much stress as joy!

It’s natural and normal to have some anxiety and stress of weight gain around the Christmas season. For many of us, the food is the part we most look forward to!

But how exactly can we enjoy it without feeling guilty about messing up our weight loss progress?

That’s the real question!

First of all it's Christmas - Relax!

The reality is, enjoying time with family and friends and sharing meals together is all part of the festive holidays. By accepting this, you can focus your efforts on efficiently preparing yourself.

It’s essential to think about the necessary changes you can make to work towards a healthy and balanced lifestyle. A weight loss journey needs dedication, so trying to fast-track your goals can result in falling back into old habits.

Christmas is an annual celebration and each year you know more or less what to expect on the day. Instead of stressing yourself out at dinnertime, focus on planning ahead. Begin with your favourite foods, so you don’t feel like you’ve missed out on anything, and focus on especially those homemade goods, as they only come around once a year!

Try practicing mindful eating.

You’ll undoubtedly find yourself multitasking throughout the day, which can open the doors to overeating if you’re not paying attention to your body’s fullness signals.

It may help to practice ‘Mindful Eating’ where like mentioned previously, you only choose items you really want to eat, and chew your food slowly to help with consuming fewer calories.

If you’re going to snack, try and go for more protein sources (turkey, ham, cheese, nuts, quinoa, etc) to help with feeling fuller and staying more on track with your macros.
