Some handy tips to ensure that you keep your alcohol calories in check:
- Make your drinks last longer by adding soda to wine and diet lemonade to lager/beer
- Try spirits with low-calorie mixers. Less calories
- Alternate alcoholic drinks with water to prevent a hangover. It’s a good way to avoid overdoing it and to stay hydrated, while also reducing your calorie intake
- Add ice to your drink to make it look like more than it is and eventually to dilute the drink to make it go further
- Avoid creamy cocktails that are high in calories and fat
- Make your first drink a water so you’re not using an alcoholic drink to quench your thirst
- Drink through a straw, it will slow you down and allow you to enjoy the taste
- Beware of “free pour” measures as it’s hard to keep track of what you’re having
- Watch out for local beers that can often be higher in calories
